Creating A File Library Type

Before a new file library can be created, a type must be created first. These library types are used to define which types of files may be uploaded. For this example, we are going to create a PNG Image File Type.

On the File Library Type Editor Select List, click the 'Create New Library Type' button to access the editor. Once loaded, complete the editor form to create the new library type using the steps below:

Step 1 - Enter a Title For Your FIle Library Type
Every library type needs a name. To assign a name to this new type, click in the box provided and type in the following title: 'Portable Network Graphics'.

Step 2 - Enter a Mime For Your File Library Type
A mime type is used to distinguish what sort of operations and attributes a file has. The operations are usually things like: how to open files of a given mime-type, how to view them, what icon is used to display it and so on. To assign a mime to this new type, click in the box provided and type in the following code: 'image/x-png'.

Step 3 - Set the File Library Type Inline Option
The inline preference determines whether or not the file type may be displayed directly on a web page. Since PNG files are image files, they can be displayed and viewed by web browsers. To set this file type to be 'inline', click the 'Yes' option.

Step 4 - Enter an Extension For Your File Library Type
The extension indicates the type of files that may be uploaded for this file library type. Only files with this extension will be allowed to be uploaded. To assign an extension code to this new type, click in the box provided and type in the following code: 'png'.

Step 5 - Save Your File Library Type
Once you have entered the required information above, click the 'Save' button located at the bottom of the editor.

Presto! Your new file library type has been created. You will see a status message at the top of your screen indicating that the type was successfully created.
